(Warning ** This is along one)
What a start to the week! Mondays are hard on everyone, amariteeee? After a busy Father’s Day weekend we at the Gould house are catching up on some house work, yard work and for me, well just work. Since being on my so-called mat-leave, my administrative work for the Spa has been rough. (For those of you that don’t know, I own a Day Spa here in Ottawa and since I am self-employed, I don’t really get maternity leave.) I have been slacking on my paperwork and I know… but I don’t regret it since the reason I’ve been so MIA is because of my 2 little boo boos. Adèle is starting to make actual sense when she talk so that’s fun! Lots of talk about yogourt, lait, chips, bébé, dodo, dehors or dewor as she says it and lots and lots about caca. That word can describe a number of things. Caca (poop), chocolat, her brother William… don’t ask. She’s also saying t’aime after I say ‘je’, which together forms the french translation for I LOVE YOU. Also she says ‘plait’ after I say ‘s’il vous’ which together forms PLEASE. We’re raising a loving a polite little girl. If only she asked before she took and she listened when maman says no haha. One thing at a time I guess!
For my youngest one, he’s developing some kind of sleep and feeding schedule which is making my life easier. It’s really tough getting a routine down pat when he springs surprise nursing sessions on you in the middle of gymnastics time for Adèle. I keep on seeing posts about the SNOO by Happiest Baby and so this is the first item on the list. Right now all I used is a wicker bassinet that I got from Babie’s R U . It’s the one I used for Adele, and to be honest it does the trick. I can move it wherever I like without waking him and it’s a safe little place to keep him during the night. I set it down on the basket rack you can purchase here. The downside though, is that it’s just a basket. It doesn’t do anything special. Doesn’t move, has no music, no rocking and is no help at all when it comes to putting him to sleep. I had checked out the mom-a-roo and that was a top purchase for me. Since we have pretty easy going babies, I didn’t think the purchase was necessary. We were lucky to get a second baby who was as easy going as Adele. However, any help is welcomed when it comes to any sleep. Since the mom-a-roo is mostly used for naps and not long stretches, I decided the SNOO is a better option.
Here are what the Snoo is all about:
- Gently rocks – all naps and nights – to help your baby be a better sleeper (up to 6 months)
- Chooses the best motion (slow swing for sleep, faster jiggles for upsets)
- Dual mesh walls maximize comfort, safety and breathability
- SNOO’s easy “5-second swaddle” is hip safe and never unravels
- Protective swaddle wings keep your baby safely on the back*
- SNOO’s gradual weaning feature makes for easy transition to crib
- Chooses the best white noise (soft rain for sleep, womb sound if crying)
- Like your own personal night nurse…for under $7 a night!
If you live in the U.S. I strongly recommend it. Most mom bloggers have found that it has been a life changer. Downside for us Canadians, it doesn’t ship to Canada since the warranty is n/a up north. You can, however, ship it to a cross border pick up station and pick it up there. I would chance it. As a matter of fact I am chancing it as I have ordered it and am waiting on it now. I’ve attached a link to their website. Just click on the word SNOO above the picture and you’ll be redirected. It’s 200$ off right now if you subscribe to their newsletter and the have a wicked military discount if you’re a family that serves!
I’ve also linked a review I found on it here. This is one of my favourite bloggers and she has the sweetest little family. Follow her for great style, lifestyle and mommy tips.
Ladies. This wrap is saving my life. I ordered it when I was pregnant with Samuel. I was referred to this specific wrap by a few different bloggers. FYI, I am so blown away by how helpful, encouraging and tight-knit the blogger community is. I have yet to find one fellow blogger not answer a question I have. Blogging is not easy! Although I am enjoying it so much, it really is time-consuming so whatever tips and shortcuts I can find, the better it makes my journey. Anyways I just needed to put that out there to say thank you to all you Instagram and Blogging ladies 🙂
Back to the wrap. I haven’t been able to get any decent photos of me wearing the wrap but do I ever wear it? Everyday. Especially with a 2-year-old running around the house. It’s tough keeping an eye on both of them but with this genius thing, I can. I use it when I go to the park, grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning (not when using harsh products of course) and just hanging around the house. I strap him in there and boom! 2 minutes and hes asleep. I find it’s the closest thing to having him back in my belly and boy does that feel good.
There are so many different options when it comes to wraps and I have friends who bought different brands. I chose the Solly because of all of its rave reviews. The material and so soft and I personally think that’s why it puts him to sleep so fast. It’s just like being swaddled in the softest blanket. The material is also incredibly breathable and lightweight which makes wearing it in summer a breeze. I have worn it in 30C degree (86F) weather and it’s worked. I do stay out of the sun though when the sun is out, to protect his delicate skin. When it’s that hot out I do try to leave his head out of the wrap and I don’t move around too much, to give him breathing space or else he gets all sweaty McGee. When your baby develops a strong neck, there is no risk at all. But until my little guy can, I want to keep his head nice and snug under one of the shoulder straps.
I love love love love this wrap. They just came out with a new collection with gorgeous patterns so I might have to order myself a new one! I ordered mine in a green tone that’s not available anymore and my husband even wears it. Yay for husband friendly baby stuff!
Before I had Adèle, I ordered the Budu Diaper bag and boy did I use it! It was the perfect buy for a first time mom since I usually ended up carrying around way too much stuff. As a pro mom 😉 I’ve learned what I need, how much of everything I need and what I can leave home. Plus Adele carries around her own bag, filled with the necessities (2 diapers, wipes, sunscreen, bug spray, change of clothes and a hat). That helps so much. I strongly recommend getting a bag for a younger child that they carry around. Fawn have even designed the cutest mini versions for your toddlers to pack their stuff in and boom, you’re twins. How adorable. They thought of everything. Carrying their own belongings teaches them responsibility and accountability when they don’t think to bring it with them. Adele isn’t even 2 so I don’t really teach her those things but eventually it will be useful to teach her those important values.
Today, with my Samuel, I found a fashionable and practical option to fit our lifestyle. Introducing the Fawn Diaper Bag. You can carry in as a backpack on your shoulders or use the shoulder strap to keep it hanging to your side. It comes in various different colours (I have the Gray with Gold Accents). I am ordering the Pink next but to start I got a gender neutral colour so that my husband would be comfortable wearing it. It’s seriously the perfect size and fits everything I need.
Here are my diaper bag staples, and they all fit comfortably.
4 baby diapers and 2 toddler diapers
2 sets of change of clothes for sam
small first aid kit
water bottle for Adele
snacks for Adele (cookies and a puree pouch)
I usually have more stuff depending on the activity we’re setting off to. If we’re heading to the pool, the zoo, the park or something else, well the contents will change.
